The 9th Emory Tibet Medical Sciences (E.T.M.S.) Exchange Program was held successfully from 24-28 June 2024

The Emory Tibet Medical Science (ETMS) Exchange Program is a collaborative initiative between the School of Medicine at Emory University and Men-Tsee-Khang Sowa-Rigpa Medical College, Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute. Begun in 2013, this program has served as a remarkable educational exchange bridging the realms of biomedical science and Tibetan medicine. We extend our deepest gratitude to our revered Spiritual Master, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, an iconic figure of world peace. It is through his blessings that we have had the privilege to embark on this incredible journey of learning directly from the Emory Experts here in Dharamsala over the past decade.

The 9th Emory Tibet Medical Sciences Exchange Program occurred from June 24-28, 2024, at Men-Tsee-Khang Sowa-Rigpa Medical College. This year, we were privileged to host Dr. Andrés Comacho-Gonzalez (Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics and Eminent Physician) and Dr. Khaalisha B. Ajala (Assistant Professor of Medicine and Senior Physician) from Emory University School of Medicine as esteemed faculty members. They delivered an enriching one-week program comprising 11 sessions, including exams, Q&A sessions, and opening and closing ceremonies, complemented by 10 insightful teaching and practical sessions.

The professors shared their profound knowledge and experience in topics such as Anatomy, Pathophysiology, exams of the heart and lungs, Gastrointestinal Disorders, and Hepatology. These topics aligned with the curriculum of the Undergraduate Tibetan Medicine (Sowa-Rigpa) Program, integrating Emory faculty’s expertise in Infectious Diseases and Point of Care Ultrasound. Both faculty and students engaged wholeheartedly, and the knowledge gained will undoubtedly enhance our roles as students, faculty, and healthcare providers.

The Men-Tsee-Khang Administration, College Faculty, and Students extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Andres and Dr. Khaalisha, particularly to Emory University’s leadership, especially Dr. Bill Eley, Executive Associate Dean of Medical Education. We eagerly anticipate our continued collaboration and partnership in the future.
