Men-Tsee-Khang Sowa Rigpa Medical College and Hospital organized a resource talk on the Scope and Future Prospects of Sowa- Rigpa from 3:30 to 4:30 pm on 29th June 2023, Thursday. The invited speaker was Dr. Khenrab Gyatso (MD), the former Vice Principal and Senior Professor at Men-Tsee-Khang Tibetan Medical College, Dharamsala, a registered herbalist currently practicing Tibetan Medicine in Ontario, Canada. His talk was attended by around 40 people, including all the Men-Tsee-Khang Sowa-Rigpa Medical College students, faculty members, and interested staff.
Dr. Khenrab Gyatso advised the students to have an ultimate aim of studying Sowa-Rigpa by understanding the significance of the system. He emphasized the need to conduct more evidence-based research and comparative studies and produce more scientific write-ups on Sowa-Rigpa in order to make the knowledge available to a larger audience. Given the vastness of the Sowa-Rigpa knowledge in terms of its disease classification, diagnostic methods, formulations, treatment of physical/mental disorders, and mental health, he reiterated the responsibility of the teaching faculty and students of the college to safeguard the system by maintaining its authenticity in both practice and teaching. He assured the students they would lead a bright and successful professional career if they studied the system well and gained enough clinical experience. He concluded by recommending that the students be humble, down to earth, and most importantly abide by the principle commitment of helping others while practicing Sowa-Rigpa. The talk was followed by a short Q&A session, which helped clear any doubts held by the students.
