Following the launch of the 2025-2026 academic batch, Men-Tsee-Khang Sowa-Rigpa Medical College invited the pleasure of Dr Patrick Shan, Director of the Centre for Education, Development and Research in Ethnomedicine CEDRE, on the afternoon of 15th Nov, 2025.

Dr Shan spoke about the Introduction of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where he not only explains in detail of the concept concerning Five Elements and Related Organ but also the theory of “Ba-gang,” or the “Eight Principles,” is a foundational framework in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) used for pattern differentiation and diagnosis. It helps practitioners classify imbalances in the body by analysing symptoms based on eight interconnected principles YANG and YIN, BIAO & LI, RE & HAN, SHI & XU, respectively. He also demonstrates some practical aspects with respect to Exercise and further spoke on Diagnosis as well as an overview of Psychology & Psychotherapy.
In an interesting Q&A, how to understand Sanjiao was raised, to which he explained it as an energy associated with multiple organs, with functions of Circulation, Transformation, and Elimination. What is important to take note of in the treatment approach is to correct the circle of life rather than to treat the disease extensively. Dr Namdol Lhamo, Vice-Principal of Men-Tsee-Khang Sowa Rigpa Medical College, presented a small token of appreciation at the end of the session.
