Students at Men-Tsee-Khang Sowa-Rigpa Medical College must learn about and identify medicinal plants as part of their education. Being well aware of the characteristics of herbal medicine grown naturally in the mountains and experiencing it in real life is very different. Therefore, every year a batch of students organizes an educational trip to Manali and Rohtang Pass in Himachal Pradesh to learn about natural herbal medicinal plants.
As of this year, our 1st professional year students for the academic session 2023-2024 completed their trip between 29th July and 12th August. As part of the trip, students learned about herbal medicines, identified them, and classified them under the guidance of our college faculty Dr. Tsering Norbu, Dr. Tsetan Mingyur, Dr. Migmar, and Dr. Penpa Dhondup. Students are also given an exam on identifying herbal medicines at the end of the trip and are safely returned to the college in Dharamshala.
