World Environment Day was established in 1972 by the United Nations at the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment which was held between 5th and 16th June 1972, which resulted from discussions on the integration of human interactions and the environment. 5th June 1973 marked the first WED World Environment Day with the theme “Only One Earth” encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the global environment. Each year is provided with a specific theme for the program celebrated by the host city. This year 2024 the theme of the WED is land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #Generation Restoration.” The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted the WED at global celebrations.
It is a universal responsibility to raise awareness of environmental issues and ongoing global warming at large. Being part of this program our college students and faculties cleaned the college near campus by picking up garbage, removing weeds from the medicinal plants, planting new herbs, and self-motivating for taking responsibility for maintaining our environment clean and safe for Mother Earth.
