On the morning of 18th December 2024, Men-Tsee-Khang Sowa-Rigpa Medical College & Hospital had the pleasure and honor of Welcoming Dr. Surender Kashyab, Honorable Vice Chancellor of Atal Medical & Research University, Nehr Chowk, Mandi for a short and maiden visit here in Men-Tsee-Khang. His Excellency’s kind visit started with a faculty meeting where each faculty member introduced themselves and the Honorable VC Sir addressed on AMRU’s works about the current Medical Education of varied healthcare professionals affiliated with AMRU University. Honorable VC sir was accompanied to each classroom, department, and Library of the college where the Principal and faculty members briefed and interacted intriguingly on the various aspects of Sowa Rigpa such as Fundamental Principles, History, Medical Astrology, Diagnostic Methods, Embryology, General Therapeutics, Anatomy & Physiology, Materia Medica and Pharmacology.
Afterward, Honorable VC sir toured the male and female wards and examined the Patient’s file in IPD followed by the inspection of pharmacy premises with Dr. Tsewang Rigzin, Deputy Director of Pharmacy Dept. On the way back, his Excellency was conversed with the Quality Control methods by Mrs Tenzin Norlha, HoD of Quality Control Dept. Later in the museum, Honorable VC sir was impressed with the ambiance and display of medicinal ingredients, therapeutic and surgical instruments as well as old manuscript pieces of literature of Tibetan Medicine. Mrs Kelsang Chodon informed His Excellency of Kachupa degree certificate awarded to Indian National, late Dr Sundra Singh by Lhasa Men-Tsee-Khang during the then Independent Tibet in 1955. In the OPD section, Honorable VC sir enquired Dr Yeshi Khando about the patient population per day and the common diseases where Sowa-Rigpa has more potential to offer effective treatment.
At around noon, the Honorable VC held a meeting and addressed the students exclusively where he expressed his joy to see the students of this unequally unique, privately run Sowa-Rigpa College in Himachal. His special interest and care for the students not only limits to academic excellence but extends far wide to students’ overall well-being on campus. Students shared their opinions, put forward a few questions as well as shared their Grievances concerning UE Exam Result declaration time for academic sessions 2022-23, requested UE exam date and gaps in between the paper and fee waiver for UE and problems faced while taking electives course. Towards the end, Honorable VC sir shared his wisdom-enriched motto i.e. to be good, see good and do good. In addition to His Excellency advises to uphold Compassion in heart and practice it in action, one should always strive hard to be like a blooming flower. Honorable VC Sir was felicitated by the Officiating Director, TASP Madam Tsering Choezom, Men-Tsee-Khang, Tibetan Medical Astro. Institute.
In short, Honorable VC Sir’s maiden visit to Men-Tsee-Khang Sowa Rigpa College was delightful and meaningful too, making all of us privileged and honored of our college affiliation with AMRU and his kind self-presence. Men-Tsee-Khang Sowa Rigpa College extends our deepest gratitude and thankfulness for his Excellency’s advice and guidance that were not only inspiring but will help us strive better in the functioning of the college and the strong imprints that His Excellency had created in our students’ minds.
