Collaboration between Men-Tsee-Khang Sowa-Rigpa Medical College & Hospital and the Centre for Spirituality and Tibetan Healing Initiatives, University of Minnesota

Men-Tsee-Khang Sowa-Rigpa Medical College & Hospital, established in Dharamsala, H.P., India, and the University of Minnesota, USA, have shared a continuous long relationship on educational programs since 2005. This year, eight students led by Dr. Tenzin Namdul, Director of Tibetan Healing Initiatives, participated in a week-long program on Tibetan Medicine from May 24 to May 31, 2024, conducted by the college faculty and doctors from various departments of the institute.

The program covered a wide range of topics, from general health and disease concepts to more specific aspects such as Psychology & Addiction, Materia Medica, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Rheumatology, Geriatric, and Palliative care in Tibetan Medicine. Students had hands-on practical sessions on pulse and urinalysis, as well as applied accessory therapies of Tibetan Medicine. In addition to a talk on the Buddhist approach to life, there was a presentation on Tibetan Medicine, highlighting its special bond with Astro. Science and Buddhism.

In exchange, the UMN students, with their varied educational backgrounds, presented topics focusing on the integration and empowering aspects of Tibetan Medicine in their professions to the college faculty and students, which were well received and followed by a Q&A session. A panel discussion among the presenters and UMN participants was held on the afternoon of May 31, 2024.

As usual, this week-long exchange program between the two centers of knowledge further deepened our relationship with much vigor and enthusiasm, creating fond memories and marking another successful batch.
