Medicine Buddha Prayer Recitation and Guru Puja on the Medicine Buddha Day of Vesak Month

As a part of Spiritual Activity of Men-Tsee-Khang Sowa-Rigpa Medical College and Hospital, all the faculty members and students of Men-Tsee-Khang College gathered for a day-long prayer meet at the college hall on May 27, 2023 [the 8th day of the Saga/Vesak Month of Tibetan Lunar Calendar – the Medicine Buddha Day]. The prayer was presided over by four senior monks invited from Gyudmey Monastery. The two main prayers recited during this auspicious meet was “Men la do chog gye pa (the detailed Medicine Buddha prayer)” and “Lama Choepa (Guru Puja)”

Medicine Buddha Puja is beneficial for mental and physical healing as well as for world peace. It purifies and heals on all levels: physical, mental, spiritual and environmental. It is considered particularly powerful to combat illness and suffering related to health and for bringing both temporal and ultimate happiness and enlightenment. During the Lama Choepai Tsog Offering (Guru Puja), the lamas or spiritual gurus of the graduated path lineage beginning with Shakyamuni Buddha himself, were invoked, extending to present direct teachers who have shown the path to the enlightenment. Doing this practice brings the mind closer to freeing all sentient beings from obscurations and sufferings thus leading to the path of enlightenment. We dedicate the collective merits generated from this prayer meet towards the long life of H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama, all the successive lineage holders of “Gyueshi” tradition and the wellbeing of all sentient beings.
